The literary phenomenon of the decade! One of the most acclaimed novels of our time
One of the most acclaimed novels of our time. Winner of the Costa Novel Award for Best Novel of 2018, nominated for the Man Booker Prize in 2018, and a host of other awards. Connell and Marianne come from the same small town in the west of Ireland, but it seems that's where the similarities between them end. At school, Connell is popular, while Marianne is a loner. Marianne is from a wealthy family; Connell grew up without a father and his mother is a cleaner. But when they strike up a conversation one day—awkward, yet riveting—they set off an avalanche that will change their lives forever. Normal People is a story of irresistible fascination, friendship, and love. It's about people whose mutual attraction and, at the same time, unbearable distance lead them to the realisation that they can neither be together nor apart. It bears witness to how difficult it is to change, to become what we consider “normal.” And with touching tenderness, it reveals how life teaches us to manoeuvre in the space between sex and power, the tendency to hurt and be hurt, the desire to love and be loved.
What they wrote about the book
A seemingly simple story, but told with intelligence, wit, and subtlety. Rooney's genius lies in her ability to track the subtle shifts in her characters, both in their inner world and in their relationship with each other. Absolutely fascinating. Read it.

I'm sad that I've already finished the book because it was good, a very good read!
