Fire on the beach

The audiobook The Fire in the Sand – the final instalment of the crime series set in the Faroe Islands. Written by Chris Ould, translated by Alžběta Lexová. Narrated by Aleš Procházka, directed by Miloš Vrána. The Faroes Trilogy #3 THE FINAL CASE FOR BRITISH DETECTIVE JAN REYNA AND FAROESE POLICE OFFICER HJALTI HENTZE. Faroese police officer Hjalti Hentze believes that, for the first time in a long while, he has a straightforward case on his hands: a fire at an abandoned farm, most likely started by accident by its owner, a local drunk, who hanged himself in the house just before. But then the forty-year-old remains of a young woman are discovered on the property, and the seemingly simple case starts to get complicated. What's more, it appears to be connected not only to the commune that settled on the farm in the seventies, but also to the old kidnapping and rape of a local girl. Meanwhile, British inspector Jan Reyna continues his investigation into his mother's suicide. However, as time goes on, he discovers that his and Hentze's cases are linked, and both point to a sinister secret buried for four decades not only on the islands, but also in Denmark. Hentze realises this too. Just as he realises that Reyna's private investigation is beginning to turn into an obsession. An obsession that could destroy him. CHRIS OULD Chris Ould had a number of jobs in his life, from ice-cream man to labourer, before publishing his first two novels, A Kind of Sleep and Road Lines, in the second half of the 1980s. He then spent many years working in television – as a screenwriter, he contributed to series such as Soldier, Soldier, Casualty, Hornblower and The Bill, for which he won a prestigious BAFTA. He returned to literature in 2012 with a pair of young adult thrillers, Knock Down and The Killing Street. However, he became famous for his detective novels set in the Faroe Islands (The Blood Strand, The Killing Bay, The Fire in the Sand), featuring detective Jan Reyna. Chris Ould lives with his wife and son in Dorset, where, among other things, he keeps sheep and tweets at @WriterChrisOuld. ALEŠ PROCHÁZKA A graduate of DAMU, he spent sixteen years at the Divadlo pod Palmovkou, where he shone in dozens of roles. Today, he can be seen on the stage of the Vinohrady Theatre. His face is familiar to audiences from numerous television series, and outside of the theatre, his favourite activity is radio work. In voice acting, he has lent his distinctive voice to many stars – Tom Hanks, Kevin Spacey, and he also voiced Agent Cooper in the cult Lynch series Twin Peaks and Severus Snape in the series of film adaptations of the Harry Potter stories. © Chris Ould 2018 First published in Great Britain in English by Titan Publishing Group Ltd. in 2018
