Oliver Twist

The story of the little orphan Oliver and his journey through a London full of poverty, hunger, and crime has touched readers for almost two centuries. Oliver Twist, growing up in the orphanage of the cruel Mr. Bumble, faces various hardships in his life, until he finally leaves his tormentors and joins the band of thieves led by the Jew Fagin. There, the skillful and cunning Ferina Lišák teaches him the craft of theft, but during one robbery, Oliver is arrested and brought to trial. It seems that Oliver' s luck will finally turn when the benevolent Mr. Barlow takes him in, but a gang of thieves won' t let Oliver go so easily and one day they simply kidnap him back to Fagin. Then he is faced with other complicated events related to his unclear and mysterious origins. It turns out that Oliver is probably entitled to a substantial inheritance, but there is also his half-brother, Edward Leeford, known as Monks, who has no intention of sharing the property with Oliver.
