Lords of the North

The third installment of the adventure saga set in early medieval England, which became the basis for the successful television series The Last Kingdom

Uhtred of Bebbanburg has much to celebrate after his victory at the Battle of Ethandun: The chicas of the enemy raiders were scattered and Alfred's kingdom of Wessex survived in no small part because of him. But the hard-hearted young man has not forgotten the wrongs once inflicted on him by his malicious uncle Ælfric, and so he heads to Northumbria to avenge the hardships of his early childhood. But neither the bull's determination nor the knight's hot-bloodedness will be of any use if he lets his guard down. Ironically, instead of the throne of Bebbanburg, he sits at the oar of a slave ship from which there is apparently no escape except as a corpse thrown overboard. Uhtred, however, is determined to persevere with his plan and searches where the carpenter left the hole. And he'll get lucky. For another battle is about to take place that could decide the fate of England - and he is not going to miss it...

They wrote about the book The Lords of the North

"Cornwell once again confirms that historical fiction reigns supreme. It presents a story full of bloodthirsty warfare and no less healthy honour, spiced up with apt humour at the right moment."

Library Journal

"The beautifully crafted story, complete with exquisitely rendered battle scenes, is so engaging that the reader rarely stops to catch his breath. In the times it depicts, its creator would have been the most desirable entertainer in Alfred's court."

Daily Mail

"A truly extraordinary narrative based on a very detailed exploration of the Anglo-Saxon mentality. "

The Observer

"The author brings to light the ghosts of ninth-century history and wraps their skeletons in new, living flesh. Through him, the world of King Alfred is recreated, perfectly grounded and vividly rendered with the passion of a master storyteller."

Justin Pollard, author of Alfred the Great
