Strategic nuclear triads, possessed by only a few great powers, can be considered the most destructive weapon system in all of human history. If they were to be actually deployed in a military conflict, the effects could lead to the total devastation of the entire planet. The disproportion between a nuclear weapon and its consequences was already demonstrated on the two occasions they have been used (fortunately, the only ones so far) in August 1945. Today, this disproportion would reach astronomical dimensions. This book focuses on the current strategic nuclear triad of the Russian Federation, analysing its structure, numbers, and the effectiveness of its individual components in detail. It provides an overview of the historical development of its Soviet predecessor and pays special attention to the changes between 2010 and 2025. In April 2010, the New START US-Russian treaty was signed in Prague, which established further stricter limits for the strategic triads of both countries. However, this treaty, concluded for a period of ten years and extended by five years, expired at the beginning of February 2026. The expectation of a further US-Russian agreement has not materialised, and in the current political situation, the success of any potential negotiations is not very likely. The book thus reveals the real state of the most powerful military element of the Russian Federation, which is information that should be generally known.
