- The ninth installment in the Commissioner Wallander case series. Stories of Wallander's beginnings. How did it all start?

Many fans of the series about Commissioner Kurt Wallander have wondered what happened before January 8, 1990 - that early winter morning in Ystad when the then nearly forty-three-year-old police officer was awakened by a phone call at the beginning of The Faceless Killers. The five compelling stories that make up this collection reveal a few bits and pieces of the Commissioner's past that his creator has chosen to let loose on the world. What kind of case was Kurt forced to solve as a twenty-one-year-old patrolman in Malmö? Who knocked him out and handcuffed him at a gas station on Christmas Eve 1975? And why did his marriage break up in the first place? Watch how a budding investigator finds his way not only in the field of criminalistics, where he proves his methodical approach and great intuition, but also as a pedestrian experiencing the joys and sorrows of life.
