Black clouds are gathering over the horizon and a stagecoach is travelling through the muddy landscape of Aisante. Inside, it carries an old bounty hunter, known by the well-deserved nickname Reaper, and his prisoner, the infamous outlaw Lambrecht – though they're nothing compared to the company at the trading post where they plan to spend the night.
None of its inhabitants are there by chance, and those who look the most innocent are the least so. It's shaping up to be a pretty nasty few hours, and not just because of the storm preventing them from leaving. The place isn't called the Devil's Maw just because the current post was once the seat of the Boisture family, cursed for their pact with the forces of hell... What's more, there's a good chance the travellers aren't entirely alone in there.
In short, none of them will soon forget this rendezvous in the middle of a century-long rain. That is, if they live to see the morning, because nothing is deadlier than a secret.
Except, perhaps, for threats that are not of this world.
A deviant, Tarantino-esque bloodbath. No fan of The Hateful Eight and the cult horror film The Thing should miss this bloody fantasy.
- PEVNOST magazine
Born in 1978 in Benešov. Although he long thought a hat and whip would suit him, he eventually studied Electronic Computer Systems and now works in the IT department of an unnamed health insurance company. He primarily writes "deviant" dark fantasy and "splatterpunk" action sci-fi. To date, he has published eight books (Theatre Macabre, Chains of Fate, Through the Fire, To Hell and Back, Like Death Itself, Scorched Earth, Sculptors of Flesh, and No Return) and occasionally contributes a short story to Pevnost magazine. For over thirty years, Hoza has been engaged in the theoretical and practical study of close combat, particularly with bladed weapons. Some of the walls in his Prague flat are so hung with steel that they resemble a castle armoury. Besides this, he is mainly devoted to his family and writing. He occasionally re-reads something by his favourite authors, Sapkowski, Kulhánek, and Pratchett, with great enjoyment.
