Song of the Prophet

A dark rainy evening in a quiet Dublin suburb. Eilish, a microbiologist and mother of four, opens the door of the family home and sees two figures outside. Members of the newly formed secret police came to question her husband Larry, a union official. Ireland's democracy is crumbling, the country is in the hands of a government heading towards tyranny, and when Larry disappears, Eilish stands alone against the terrifying logic of a society rapidly losing its order. How far will she have to go to save her family? A gripping novel of breathtaking originality, it is not only a devastating vision of a country on the brink of civil war, but also a heartfelt portrait of the immense power of a mother's love, ordinary human kindness, and the resilience of the human spirit in inhuman conditions. Paul Lynch won the 2023 Booker Prize for his dystopian novel The Prophet's Song.
