There are three of them. At first, they are children. The world is in balance. Later, everything changes. She loves one of them, and both of them love her. Zuzana Liebeskind is a sugar magnate's daughter. She wants for nothing, gliding through life with ease, surrounded by love. Threads of burnt sugar float through the air. The 1930s in the small town of Holašovice are sweet. It is only during the German occupation that Zuzana begins to mature. She painfully grows into history, and history is written into her. Because she is of Jewish origin, her fate is predetermined. Transport. Concentration camp. Zuzana’s friends, Hanuš and Jan, remain in Holašovice. But their paths diverge. After the war ends, Zuzana returns from the concentration camp, but her losses are greater than she expected. After everything she has been through, can she still love? And does she even have a choice?
