Transglobal Underground (TGU) is a large group of excellent musicians whose first album was released in 1993 on the Nation Records label. This was created specifically for the purpose of releasing a fusion of Western dance music with Arabic, African, and Asian music.
They are influenced by truly transglobal elements: dub-reggae, oriental melodic motifs, clean sharp rhythms, and drum & bass riffs. To be more precise – instead of "mixing" musical styles, they start from the initial premise that nothing like a "musical style" exists.
They do not recognise the term "world music" either. At the beginning of their creative journey, they began to use musical styles as they saw fit, and to sing in whatever language matched their mood at the time. They slowed down hip hop and sped up dub. They were DJs, but they played live. With their innovative approach, TGU have influenced music all over the world. Their concerts are famous for their relaxed atmosphere and the tremendous exchange of energy between the musicians and the audience.
