Synology RX1217RP
The Synology RX1217RP is suitable for any company and will safely solve situations where storage capacity is running low. It is a storage expansion kit with 12 bays for 2.5"/3.5" SATA III HDD/SSD drives. This allows selected Synology RackStation devices to easily gain more storage space. If a separate volume is created on this device, it can be used as a backup for the Synology RackStations. RAID volumes on the RackStation can be expanded without disrupting service and without formatting existing hard drives. Additionally, the RX1217RP is capable of intelligently powering the connected server on or off, so no user intervention is required to activate power-saving or efficient operation.

Storage Capacity Expansion
The device adds twelve additional bays for both 3.5" and 2.5" hard drives, as well as for fast 2.5" SSDs. The RAID volume on the connected RackStation can be expanded directly without needing to format the inserted drives. This process takes place during full operation without interrupting the availability of network services. This gives users immediate space for additional data volumes.
Server Connection
A special high-bandwidth cable handles the connection to the main server. The 6 Gb/s SATA interface provides the installed drives with stable performance during data processing. The system accesses the external drives in the same way as it does the internal storage. Data transfer exhibits high speed and stability, even under intensive loads.
Energy Saving
Hard drive hibernation mode is triggered automatically after a preset period of system-wide inactivity. This setting reduces the overall power consumption to 31.2W while also extending the lifespan of the installed drives. Additionally, the unit synchronises its power on/off cycles with the main RackStation server for simplified power management. The device's operation requires no manual user intervention, and the thermal output in hibernation mode drops to 106.53 BTU/hr.
Local Data Backup
A second option for using the added drives is to create a separate volume for storing backup copies. This separate space serves as a secure location for local backups of the entire RackStation server. Setting up regular backups reliably protects key company files against loss. The data remains separate from the main production volume.
Rack-Mount Design
The 2U metal chassis fits into standard 19" racks, and installation is made easier with the Synology Rail Kit - RKS-02. The total weight of the empty device is 13.4kg. Three 80mm system fans provide cooling for the internal space. The design allows for easy access to the drives from the front panel and meets the requirements for operation in a temperature range of 5°C to 35°C.
