WD Red hard drive is the world's first model to be was developed exclusively for NAS systems. The unit is tested for 24/7s operation at home or for small NAS businesses with one to five positions (for larger systems NAS is better to use enterprise drives). A foundation of WD hard drives is the 35% increase in the statistical indicators MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), which indicates the median time in hours and allows for the equipment to work flawlessly as expected.
WD Red drives now have greater capacity
Our successful technology has enabled us to massively increase WD Red's storage caches to the highest capacity possible. Now there are models with a capacity of up to 8TB. WD now offers customers an even wider range and comprehensive portfolio of NAS solutions with 1-16 positions. The WD Red series is expanding above and beyond.

Advanced optimization
NASware in version 3.0
NASware 3.0 technology is the result of our efforts to provide the best NAS. It includes further optimising the WD Red series for NAS environments and is now supported by the 6-8 position NAS. The WD Red drive also now supports small NAS systems with 1-8 positions and offers greater compatibility and reliability, thanks to NASware 3.0. The WD Red series is designed for next generation, 8-position NAS systems with a total capacity of 48TB.
Professional solutions
The WD Red series is designed for small and midsize businesses, and has now been expanded to WD Red Pro, which is designed for medium to large NAS environments with 8-16 positions. WD Red drives will help to reduce energy costs. Thanks to innovative technology, both energy consumption and operating temperature is even lower than before.
