Fire Extinguishers

Fire extinguishers are very useful in the vehicle, although they are not compulsory. In an emergency, they can quickly extinguish a fire and save lives and property. The most suitable type is the powder fire extinguisher. It is made in different sizes.

Basic types of powder extinguishers

  • Extinguishing Spray - suitable for recently started fires in vehicles, as well as offices and households. The volume is about 500 ml.
  • Powder extinguisher - extinguish an established or major fire in a car, camping, cottage and the like. It has greater efficiency and range than extinguishing spray. 7 litres are suitable for passenger cars, whereas trucks etc should have tanks over 7 litres.

Principles of behavior in a vehicle fire

  • In the car, place a fire extinguisher where it is readily accessible eg. Under the passenger compartment, or under the seat.
  • If driving you notice smoke or have any suspicion of fire, stop immediately.
  • Turn the engine off and exit the vehicle.
  • With a fire extinguisher in your hands, perform a visual check of the state.
  • When a fire is noticed in the engine compartment, only slightly open the bonnet. This prevents air.
  • Meanwhile report the fire to 999 or 112
  • If the fire is too large, retreat to a safe distance away from the car and wait for the arrival of firefighters.
