The Cayin RU9 is a portable hi-res DAC/AMP (digital-to-analogue converter and headphone amplifier) that uses a miniature vacuum tube to deliver an authentic "analogue" sound. It's the first dongle to feature the innovative Korg NuTube 6P1 vacuum tube, which brings the sound of a classic triode in a modern, miniature and energy-efficient design. Thanks to the dual-channel OPA1662 amplifier, you can also use a purely transistor mode, which offers a punchy and precise sound profile with a low noise level. High-quality sound processing is handled by two monophonic AK4493SEQ DAC chips and a powerful XMOS XU316 processor (16 cores), enabling native playback in advanced DSD256 or 32-bit/768kHz PCM formats. A 100-step NJW1195 resistor ladder provides precise volume control. You'll also appreciate the selectable Classic Tube / Modern Tube / Solid-State and Hyper DC modes, which make the RU9 amplifier a highly effective and flexible tool for expressing and emphasising your musical style. The Cayin RU9 has a high-quality machined metal body with a magnetic back cover and a clear OLED display that makes adjusting playback settings easy. It also includes a Bluetooth interface and an integrated 2000mAh battery with up to 4.7 hours of life.
The Cayin RU9 is tuned for maximum performance, using two monophonic AK4493SEQ DAC chips and a powerful 16-core XMOS XU316 processor to process sound. This enables native playback of audio files in very high quality up to 32-bit/768kHz (PCM and DSD512). Its high power makes the RU9 amplifier an ideal choice for more demanding headphone models, such as IEMs, over-ear, or hybrid models with electrostatic (EST) drivers that require more power. When using the unbalanced output (3.5mm), the amplifier provides 420mW of power (32Ω load), which is sufficient for most standard headphones. For connecting more demanding headphones, you can use the 4.4mm balanced output, which offers 620mW of power at a 32Ω load.
When you connect the Cayin RU9 amplifier to the mains via an external power adapter, it automatically activates Hyper Mode, which further increases the operating voltage and quiescent current for even cleaner sound, punchier dynamics, and a more faithful sound reproduction. When using the 4.4mm balanced output in Hyper Mode, the amplifier generates an output power of up to 1000mW. In addition to using an adapter, you can also power it via standard USB or the integrated 2000mAh battery, which offers up to 4.7 hours of playback on a single charge.
The Cayin RU9 amplifier has an elegant metal body weighing just 150 grams, so you can easily carry it or slip it into your travel luggage. The magnetic back cover also makes it easy to attach the amplifier to your mobile phone or another device. There is also a clear 0.96″ display that shows basic playback information and simplifies device setup. The Cayin RU9 also features a Bluetooth 5.1 interface for convenient wireless music playback directly from your phone or another device. Wireless communication is handled by a powerful Qualcomm QCC5125 chipset with support for LDAC, AptX HD, AptX LL, SBC, and AAC codecs, ensuring wide compatibility and high-quality data transmission.
