Benefits of Pre-Orders:The Commodore C64 Handheld gaming console is for playing retro games in a portable format on the go. The device brings original eight-bit titles to mobile form without the use of a disk drive. The built-in 2,000mAh battery powers the entire device when used outdoors. Users can run games away from home without needing to connect to a television. The beige-coloured design faithfully replicates the look of the original 1980s computer in a clamshell form factor. Features also include a 4.3" touchscreen display and a built-in microphone.
The look of the handheld device matches the original Commodore 64 computer from the 1980s. The design uses a beige colour and the traditional styling of computers from that era. The clamshell format protects the screen and keyboard during transport. The manufacturer, HyperMegaTech, has created a replica with nostalgia in mind. The plastic body weighs just 235g, making it easy to hold in your hands.
The 4.3" screen displays the game environment at a resolution of 840 × 480px. The IPS panel provides wide viewing angles and bright colours. The sharp image faithfully reproduces the original look of old gaming systems, allowing players to see every detail. The display has an aspect ratio suitable for displaying old games.
The body of the device features a directional pad and four main action buttons. The controls are complemented by Menu, Start and Select system keys. The buttons respond to presses with precise feedback when playing fast-paced games. Four mappable function buttons are used to set selected functions. The manufacturer has made all controls from tactile plastic.
On the back, there is a USB-A port for connecting an external keyboard. The MicroSD card slot is used to upload your own game files and homebrew titles. Users can easily upload additional files using a memory card. Headphones can be connected via the 3.5mm jack. The built-in battery is charged via the modern USB-C interface.
The device's memory contains 25 original game titles, including well-known games like Sam's Journey, Speedball 2, Paradroid and Nebulus. The pre-installed library includes a diverse range of game genres from the 1980s. The user interface offers a clear menu with information about each game. The system supports saving and reloading game positions.
The software offers switching between different versions of the original hardware. The C64 PAL and NTSC, C64C, portable C64SX, PET64 and the C64 GS gaming formats are available.
