Alphaville: The Breathtaking Blue (LP + DVD) - LP
The expanded reissue of the third album offers not only the newly remastered original recording but also bonus material. One of Germany's most internationally famous synthpop groups was formed in 1982 and borrowed the name of the 1965 French film Alphaville for its name. The original name of the formation in which singer Marian Gold and keyboardist Bernhard Lloyd met was Nelson Community. After Frank Mertens joined them, they briefly called themselves Forever Young, then chose Alphaville. Their first big hit, Big In Japan, was written by Gold back in 1979 and inspired by the band name Big In Japan by singer Holly Johnson, later the frontman of Frankie Goes To Hollywood. The song Big In Japan was released in 1984 as their debut single, prefiguring their first and most famous album, Forever Young. They have released seven albums to date, with the longest breaks being between the last three, thirteen and seven years.
