Black Barons or We fought for caps (3rd edition)
The well-known and popular work from the pen of the renowned author and proven storyteller Miloslav Švandrlík is published by Epocha Publishing House for the fourth time with all original illustrations drawn by Master Neprakta directly to the book.
This now classic title, reminiscent of times recently past, in which the author, who performed his military service in 1953-55 at the Technical Battalions in western and southern Bohemia, describes in a colourful and distinctive way the everyday absurdities of the extraordinary period of Czechoslovak-Soviet post-war friendship and its reflection not only in the lives of military conscripts - soldiers.
The book, respectively. Its 17 chapters of the "first part" were first published by the Vysočina publishing house in 1969 and for the next twenty years the stories of the "second part" could only be spread by word of mouth or by copying; the text was published in a comprehensive form only after the change of political conditions in 1990.
The novel The Black Barons was made into a film at Studio Barrandov in 1992 (directed by Zdeněk Sirový, written by M. Švandrlík and Z. Sirový). The film was shot on Zelená Hora. In 2002, an eleven-part series based on both parts of The Black Barons was produced in the Brno studio of Czech Television, supplemented by stories from other novels: They called him Terazky and Five Axes of Lieutenant Hamacek. The series was filmed in a largely devastated and inaccessible castle in Jaroslavice near Znojmo and premiered on the first programme of ČT on 19 January 2004 (directed by Juraj Herz, written by Martin Bezouška).
