Gregor Marty is an ordinary editor of a book publishing house whose life is turned upside down by the discovery of a mysterious rainbow mushroom with strange effects. Boletus arcanus will grant every wish. After ingesting it, you can be rich, desirable and maybe even immortal. That's a very tempting idea. And you can get rich off it. A mushroom thriller about a supernatural mushroom whose effects are both alluring and terrifying, written by Czech writer Miloš Urban. Not just the name of the story's narrator, Gregor Marty, but also the names of other characters - McRoupolos, Emilia Prus, Elina, Kristina - refers to the famous drama by Karel Čapek The Makropulos Case, to the game of immortality and man's right to artificially prolong his life. Miloš Urban's novel Boletus arcanus, which works with Čapek's theme of human coping with the double-edged gift of eternal youth, was published in 2011. The radio adaptation was made four years later.
