Imagine life behind a soundproof barrier that separates you from the world around you. Deaf people who use sign language to communicate, not Czech, feel every day in a world that should be known to them as complete strangers. That is why the Silent Line was created - online interpreting and transcription of sign language as a bridge between the world of the hearing and the deaf.

We want to be heard
This is Simon
Simon is a young deaf person who has exactly the same needs and rights as his other peers. Nevertheless, his life is completely different, because he lives in a world without sounds and his native language is sign language, which has a different grammar and rules than Czech. The silent line gives him the opportunity to solve most necessary things in a language he understands as well as the hearing.

We dispel myths
Few people know that sign language is not international. For some deaf people, Czech is a foreign language and they do not understand everything that is written. Quite often, they get into problems that they would not have been in if they had the opportunity to interpret. The famous deafblind Helen Keller once said: “Blindness separates people from things, but deafness from people.“ After clicking on the picture, you can watch our video about the needs of deaf people.
They said about the project
"Mně se tenhle projekt strašně líbí, protože jsem v životě neslyšel, že něco takovýho existuje a vlastně mě nikdy nenapadlo, že by něco takovýho mohlo být potřeba. A pak najednou člověku dojde, jak je to strašně důležité a jak si uvědomí, že na těch cestách hrozně často řeší úplně ten samý problém, " říká cestovatel Dan Přibáň. About the Silent World
Since 2006, we have been connecting the world of the hearing and the deaf, and we currently operate in ten regions of the Czech Republic. We provide the deaf with comprehensive support in the form of services that make it easier for them to integrate into society. We offer social rehabilitation, professional social counseling and interpreting services.

Project guarantor
Marie Horáková is the director and founder of the non-profit company Tichý svět, which helps the deaf to improve their quality of life and contributes to removing communication barriers between the worlds of the hearing and deaf. In 2014, she received the Annual Award for Extraordinary Merit in the Care of the Deaf in the Czech Republic from the Minister of Health for her work.
