Dead Zone

The audiobook Dead Ground, written by M. W. Craven, translated by Jan Lipšanský. Read by Martin Zahálka, directed by Jakub Tabery. Washington Poe #4 Detective Sergeant Washington Poe is in court, fighting eviction from his beloved secluded cottage. However, during the hearing, he is called to a run-down brothel in Carlisle where a man has been bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat. Poe is confused – he hunts serial killers, yet this looks like an ordinary pimp-murder. But his involvement has been personally requested by people who prefer to remain in the shadows. The deeper Poe and the socially awkward programmer Tilly Bradshaw delve into the case, the more seemingly unanswerable questions arise: Why, despite rigorous background checks for a high-level position, does nothing in the victim's past add up? Why was a small trinket left at the crime scene – and why did someone from the investigative team steal it? And how is the case connected to a flawlessly executed bank heist three years earlier in which nothing was stolen? M. W. CRAVEN A British author of crime novels and thrillers. Probation officer. M. W. Craven was born in Carlisle but grew up in Newcastle, which he ran away from at the tender age of sixteen to join the army. He spent the next ten years travelling the world and having fun. In 1995, he decided to study social work, focusing on criminology and substance abuse. At the age of thirty-one, he became a probation officer in Whitehaven, eventually working his way up to a senior position.
