Dido kept fans waiting for her fifth studio album for six long years. The album was previewed by the single Hurricanes in autumn 2018, followed by Give You Up in January 2019. She composed and recorded most of the material for the new album together with her brother, who is a member of the famous dance group Faithless under the stage name Rolo. According to the singer's own words, the sound of the album is supposed to be a return to her hip hop and folk roots.
The British singer-songwriter Dido was one of the biggest pop sensations in island music at the turn of the millennium. The London native, Dido Florian Cloud de Bounevialle O'Malley Armstrong, rose to fame with her 1999 debut No Angel, which sold over twenty million copies, thanks in large part to the hits Thank You, Here With Me and Hunter. Her subsequent album Life For Rent in 2003 was similarly successful, with both albums being among the best-selling records in the history of British pop music. Since then, Dido has been releasing albums with five to six year breaks until now.
