Disappeared Sumava
The fate of the inhabitants of Šumava was mercilessly affected by the "great" history of the 20th century, first by the two world wars, then by the expulsion of the German inhabitants, the impermeable closure of the border and the creation of a military training area, to which the forcibly displaced villages and settlements had to yield. Emil Kintzl, for whom Šumava has been his lifelong love, and Jan Fischer, director of the eponymous documentaries on the Stream.cz internet television station, provide an engaging and incisive account of the peculiar life of the highlanders and recall the rich industrial and cultural history of the region.
