Divine Emperor of Dune

If you listen, the spice won't pass you by!

The largest predator the world has ever known, and the loneliest creature in the entire universe, is named Leto Atreides II. and has ruled the multigalactic Empire with a firm hand for millennia. His father, Paul Atreides, known as Muad'Dib, once led the Fremen rebels to victory on the planet Arrakis, also known as Duna. However, 3,500 years have passed since then, and both the planet in question, now called Rakis, and its long-time ruler have changed beyond recognition in that time. The sandy soil has become covered with green and so have the sand worms, the only source of the miraculous spice, whose last reserves the Emperor guards as his greatest treasure and main instrument of power. He himself has taken on the form of a six-foot-long worm with human hands and face, who inspires terror in even his most loyal servants, and uses his gift of clairvoyance to move humanity forward along the Golden Path, the only path that promises its future survival. But the enemies of the divine Emperor have their own plans...

The fourth installment of the famous Dune book series, which has gone down in the history of science fiction literature and is now coming to life again on cinema screens.

They wrote about the book Divine Emperor of Dune

"Once again, the reader gets a very compelling story in this book, full of adventure, philosophical dialogues and the inner thought world and insight into the intentions of the individual, who became the result of his irreversible decision, leading not only to physical changes, the loneliest creature in the known universe."

Pavel Skořepa, deti-noci.cz

"A fourth visit to distant Arrakis that is as fascinating as the previous three volumes - and as timely."

Time

"One of the monuments of modern science fiction."

Josef Novak

Frank Herbert

(1920 - 1986) American writer Frank Herbert was born in Tacoma and graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle. He was a man of many trades: He made his living as a reporter, editor, professional photographer and videographer, commentated for local radio stations, went to sea as an oyster hunter and worked as a jungle survival instructor. His first original short story Looking for Something? was published in Startling Stories, then he wrote about twenty more short stories published in various SF magazines, and in 1955 he published his first novel Dragon in the Sea. It was received kindly by the critics, as were his other novels Green Brain (1966), The Direction: The Void (1966), Heisenberg's Eyes (1966), Creators of Heaven (1968), Santaroz Barrier (1968), The Makers of God (1972), Hellstorm Chronicles (1973). However, his real success came in 1965 with the novel Duna. The first part was published under the title The World of Dune in December 1963 in the leading SF magazine Analog. The story then went on, thanks to reader interest, as The Prophet of Dune. In the book edition, Herbert combined the two works and called them succinctly and concisely Duna. The book won the Hugo Award in 1966 and the Nebula Award in the same year, the first time it had ever been awarded. The author then developed the theme in five sequels depicting the subsequent fate of the planet Arrakis and the struggle for its control. In 1984, David Lynch made a film adaptation of Dunes and in 2000 a three-part miniseries was co-produced, which was partly filmed in the Czech Republic.

Excerpt from the book

"When I decided to lead humanity along my Golden Path, I promised them a lesson they would remember to the core. I know a great law which men deny in words, though their actions confirm it. They say they long for security and peace, for that state they call peace. But even as they speak, they create seeds of confusion and violence. When they find their quiet safety, they are uncomfortable in it. How bored they are! Just look at them now. Look at what they are doing as I record these words. Phew! I have given them long ages of enforced peace that drags on and on despite all their attempts to escape into chaos. Believe me, the memory of Leto's peace will stay with them forever. They will seek their quiet safety only with extreme caution and good preparation."
