What are DMO Stays?

DMO Stays is a non-profit organization that organizes stays several times a year for people diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Stays are thematically focused - Easter, spa, sports, sightseeing, summer rehabilitation stay.

The target group of the organization is adults, not children, as society, often mistakenly thinks.
The stays we prepare are a form of respite - relief care for parents or carers. They thus get a week (sometimes even two) when they can relax and gain strength from the often demanding care of their loved one.

What is cerebral palsy (DMO)

Cerebral palsy is a developmental disease causing irreversible brain damage, movement disorders, problems with gross and especially fine motor skills, communication problems and, in severe cases, mental retardation, combined defects or epilepsy. It often occurs during pregnancy, during complicated births (where the brain of the newborn is not oxygenated) or in the first months of life.

Founder of an association diagnosed with DMO

The organization was founded ten years ago by Kateřina Maxová. She herself suffers from cerebral palsy. Nevertheless, it is she who takes care of securing the funds needed to carry out the stays. Each client pays for their stay, ie food and accommodation, but it is necessary to provide the same for voluntary personal assistants, without whose help the stays could not take place. DMO Stays also financially provide transport, admission to cultural and social events, rehabilitation and compensation aids or material for ergotherapy during the stay. All this from donations and contributions from sponsors, which Kateřina Maxová receives. “We Are Not From Another Planet“ is the title of a book about the founder of the association. The book was published in several dozen copies and offers a look into Katka' s life, the joys and sorrows of living with a disability, and the history of the organization. The book contains contributions from Katka' s friends, colleagues, assistants and people whom Kateřina met. We would like us to be able to reprint this book, a pamphlet that we believe seeks to break down stereotypes in society towards people with cerebral palsy.
