Dry

The cracked ground reveals long-buried secrets... A detective novel set in the Australian bush Dry.

Australian police officer Aaron Falk from Melbourne's Economic Crime Unit returns to the drought-stricken town of Kiewarra after 20 years. But it wasn't the disaster that brought him to his rural hometown that bankrupted businesses and farms - he came to attend the funeral of his best friend Luke, who allegedly murdered his wife and son and then committed suicide. This doesn't make sense to Falk, so he and the local police chief launch an unofficial investigation, which is soon opposed by almost all the locals. After all, besides the fact that the horrible act lacks logic, there are many other inconsistencies, strange circumstances and above all: new wounds opened up old ones. She and Luke had a secret since they were teenagers, but it wasn't supposed to come out...

A detective novel set in the Australian bush, it has won the annual British Crime Prize, the French Prix Cognac, The Sunday Times Prize and four prizes in debut competitions, among others.
