Final diagnosis - Masters of the word
Masters of the Word - Final Diagnosis: Arthur Hailey's novel from a medical background. The plot takes us to the pathology of an American hospital in the 1950s.
Anyone can make mistakes in life, but not in a medical environment... The excellent Arthur Hailey presents a thrilling story from the 1950s, showing that a hospital is often a cruel world with its own rules and complex relationships. It clashes the ambitions of young doctors with the efforts of their ageing colleagues to keep up with their pace. In addition, typhus infection comes into play. It's only when Three Counties Hospital is threatened with closure that anyone's abilities are revealed.
The Masters of the Word edition is full of literary treasures. Our best acting voices, who are so close to us, talk about their favourite books and important literary works that have reached them, influenced them and to which they may even like to return. Each month, you can look forward to new stories in the Masters of the Word Edition, uniquely performed by our masters of the spoken word, and delight your heart.
Arthur Hailey
The Canadian novelist was born and raised in England. He had aspired to a literary career since childhood, but due to financial problems in his family he did not complete his education. He became an RAF pilot during the war and then went on to work as an editor of a British Air Force magazine. Conditions in post-war England did not suit Hailey and he decided to move to Canada with his family. Having gained a variety of experiences in different jobs and having moved frequently, his stories are deepened by his detailed knowledge of the environment and psychological tension. Hailey spent the last years of his life in the Bahamas.
