Five penitents

The spiral of violence begins to turn. Someone unknown hires Agent Winter to track down a missing student from a Prague grammar school. A bleakly sad thriller seasoned with coarse language, irony, and black humour. Fifteen-year-old Pavla Meinerová, a previously trouble-free student at a Prague grammar school, briefly informs her parents that she is leaving home to be with her boyfriend, and then vanishes without a trace. Her father begins to search for her on his own and is found dead a few days later in a Prague forest. An unknown man pays “unofficial agent” Winter triple his usual fee to find out what happened to Pavla. This secret client correctly suspects that Winter's life will be on the line during the investigation. A dark detective story crossed with a thriller and spiced with a hefty dose of humour as black as morning coffee before an execution. Despite his dangerously sharp tongue and hands that deal out blows as if on a conveyor belt, Agent Winter is fighting for a good cause. But does he stand a chance in this evil world? The story contains explicit descriptions of violence and sexual violence.
