Even all the beauty of Tasmania won't get Hungry Old Man out of your head...
When four teenage schoolgirls get lost in the wilderness of the Tasmanian mountains during a hike, the residents of Limestone Creek have a sense of eerie déjà vu, because a similar event occurred here in 1985. Since then, the scary legend of the Hungry Old Man has been circulating among the local youth, who lurks in the rocks for pretty girls... Experienced detective Con Badenhorst, who is called to the case, ...but I don't give a damn about superstition, but even so, it's clear to him that he's in for an exceedingly difficult investigation. They have to deal not only with all the suspects, but also with the families of the missing girls, corrupt police officers, drug dealers and, last but not least, the intrigues of a local celebrity - a friend of the missing girls who has hundreds of thousands of followers on social media. And he has his boss breathing down his neck, who, unlike him, is most worried about her own reputation. Will the girls be found alive? Who's behind their disappearance? And why does Con have the nagging feeling that no one here is telling him the whole truth?
Kyle Perry's award-winning first novel draws on his intimate knowledge of Tasmanian nature and his extensive experience with people who find themselves on the slopes.
