Whenever Karel Gott starts to sing “Lásko má, jsi krásná, jak hudba zní tvůj hlas” (“My love, you are beautiful, your voice is like music”) at any of his concerts, he receives a frenetic round of applause. The global evergreen hit 'Unchained Melody' was first heard in the forgotten 1955 crime film 'Unchained', performed by Al Hibbler (which earned a Grammy nomination), and has since seen over 700 cover versions worldwide, most famously by the American vocal duo The Righteous Brothers.
In Gott's rendition, with Czech lyrics by Zdeněk Borovec, it has become a perennial favourite in the singer's repertoire. It is therefore no surprise that under the title 'Lásko má', more than forty of the most beautiful love songs performed by the most popular Czech singer of love will reach not only his fans but all those in love, on a 2-disc album.
The 1977 song 'Zbyl tu tvůj stín' ('Your Shadow Remained Here') is being released on a record for the very first time! Karel Gott recorded the hit by American soul singer Arthur Alexander, 'Where Have You Been All My Life', with Ladislav Štaidl's orchestra and backing vocalists Jitka Zelenková, Jarmila Gerlová, and Vlasta Kahovcová at the Supraphon Mozarteum studio on 18th October 1978. He only performed the song publicly once on one of his television shows at Prague's Lucerna in 1978. The song then vanished into the annals of Czech pop music history.
Duets with Jitka Zelenková, Sylva Schneiderová, and Hana Zagorová will certainly be a welcome addition. 'Lásko má' is a collection for lovers of all generations, destined to become one of the best-selling albums in the extensive discography of the twenty-nine-time Zlatý slavík (Golden Nightingale) winner, Karel Gott.
