A return to the world of the successful sci-fi series Pilgrims
The planet Gora is without water, without air, without life, and therefore completely uninteresting. Its only advantage is that it is close to more interesting worlds - making it a convenient stop for ships travelling through the wormholes of the Galactic Community. If space were a highway, then Gora would be a truck stop.
In the Five Hop One Stop Dome, spacefarers can stretch their legs (if they have them), get fuel, travel permits and supplies on long journeys. It is run by an enterprising alien woman and her child, who occasionally helps her out, and tries her best to provide a home for anyone who passes through.
However, a strange technical failure cripples the traffic on Gora and three complete strangers are stranded together in Five Hops One Stop: each of a different race and each with different plans. They have no choice but to wait. And so an artist in exile rushing to an important meeting, a cargo pilot facing a difficult life decision, and a mysterious person helping a fellow marginalised species try to come to terms with what they have done, what they could do, and what they are - or could be - for each other.

Once again, Chambers creates an epic space setting with a detailed, personal look at some of its inhabitants. Humour and melancholy permeate her book full of diverse characters.

Many readers still associate science fiction mainly with high technology. Many leading authors of the genre, such as Ursula K. Le Guin, however, proved that it is possible to write about space distances without technology, but humanistically and with the heart in the palm of one's hand. Becky Chambers is the modern queen of just such an approach.
— Strength
Becky Chambers' books are unlikely to inspire anyone to become a top scientist, but they can lead readers to become better people. They'll just broaden their horizons. And that's not bad at all.
