A retired military police major with the look of a rough-and-tumble hobo who crisscrosses America as a self-appointed lawman to fight injustice, he tracks down the lovely Carmen, who resembles an Aztec princess in looks and demeanor, as he travels across the Lone Star State. Under the scorching Texas sun, in a comfortable Cadillac, he hears the moving story of a Mexican woman from a wealthy old family whose heart was stolen by a rich gringo who turned into an insufferable tyrant after the birth of his daughter. An unexpected plea for help prompts Reacher to change his plans - he heads to the remote Greer ranch to protect a fragile beauty and her baby girl from a violent man who has just been released from prison. He doesn't know that yet, that he's tangled in a deadly web of lies, of intrigue and crime, in which, in addition to hot-blooded white Texans, with the local sheriff and judge out of the way, also features a trio of professional killers. Reacher's gonna be sweating it out this time in search of the truth...
