Jananas: That alone - CD

Following the spring release of Malorážka, Jananas are stirring the still summer air with their new single, To samo! The song, which has a slightly different kind of 'lyric video', also heralds the release of a new studio album of the same name.

“We named the record 'To samo' after the current single, but it also describes our band's working principle and how the album was made. We actually started recording back in 2015, but by Czech standards, the album took a rather long time to create. We didn't want to just come to the studio with prepared material and be done in a week. We simply had to 'sit on' some of the songs in the studio.

But that sitting didn't mean desperate waiting; it meant more fun moments and piling up new ideas. So we deliberately let it ferment and brew. That allowed something natural and self-evident to emerge. In short, we waited for it to come on its own,” reveal the members of Jananas, sharing details about the creation of the new album.

The four-piece band recorded the eagerly awaited new material at SONO Studio and admit that their collaboration with producer Viliam Béreš had a fundamental influence on its sound. However, Jananas' clever humour and subtle subversiveness still persist, as evidenced by the band's following words:

“Occasionally, real musicians appeared in the studio. They were usually recording something serious in the next studio over. But when they found out what a momentous album was being created just one studio away, they stayed with us and lent a hand. That's how guitarist Peter Binder and double bassist Rasťo Uhrík ended up on the record. We're also delighted with the participation of the Benewitz Quartet and Vojta Nýdl from Clarinet Factory.”

And the new single proves it too, accompanied by a 'lyric video' that is a cut above the rest by local standards, about which the band says: “Jananas is built, among other things, on high-quality lyrics. That's why a lyric video was the obvious choice. We wanted to show that you can enjoy a lyric video and not just use it as background music. To elevate the form of the lyric video a little beyond this pure joy, to show it doesn't have to be just automatically generated text over a photo of the artist. But if by any chance someone doesn't like it, we can of course say: it wasn't us, it did it itself.”
