Jaromír Honzák Quintet: Present Past - CD

The third studio album from Jaromír Honzák (also a member of Iva Bittová's band Čikori and the Eben brothers' group), recorded with an international band, follows on from his previous album, Earth Life.

Greater tonal colour was achieved through the use of the electric guitar, more frequent use of arco (bowed) double bass playing, and the inclusion of an electric piano. Jaromír Honzák, a graduate of Boston's Berklee College, continues the tradition of the world-renowned Czech bass school, a reputation built in part by names like George Mraz and Miroslav Vitouš. Honzák has previously performed in his own groups, but has also collaborated with Christian Rover's trio and Quartet East. The band leader's exclusively original repertoire can best be described as stylistically open contemporary music. The album won the “Anděl 2003” award from the Academy of Popular Music for the best jazz recording of the year.
