A brand new chapter in the career of an unmistakable musician with a wild spirit!
Honza Křížek, frontman of the now-cult band Walk Choc Ice, long-time voice of Blue Effect, multi-instrumentalist, and composer of film and stage music, is presenting his own solo work for the very first time in his extensive career. The project was preceded by acoustic solo performances that summarised his musical career to date and introduced some of his new original songs. Their success with the audience gave him the necessary energy to finish writing songs for a full album, which he simply named Honza Křížek.
The album was entirely recorded and sung at The Barn studio under the production supervision of Dan Friml (Mean Messiah), who also contributed the track 'Planety'. This track, along with a cover version of the iconic song 'Slunečný hrob' featuring guest Michal Pavlíček, which is seminal for more than one generation, are the only songs not written by Honza. The remaining eleven tracks present the former Kollerband member and long-time collaborator of Ivan Král as a distinctive creator whose main domain is intelligent pop-rock, but who is not afraid to flirt with punk-rock or electronica.
Despite its genre diversity, Křížek's solo debut is a cohesive and confident statement from an artist who undoubtedly ranks among the most prominent figures on the domestic music scene and proves that he has something to say. The fact that he is diving in headfirst, so to speak, is also confirmed by the meticulously crafted visual aspect of the entire project. This was handled by Rostislav Novák Jr., an actor and principal of the renowned Cirk La Putyka ensemble, who presents Honza – whether through the album cover or the booklet – in many different guises, none of which should be overlooked.
