From the singles from the sixties, through excerpts from the album Songs and Ballads and the best recordings from the period after 1989, you can listen to this year's newly recorded and sung Prayer for Martha.
The songs - with the singer's approval, of course - were chosen by pianist, composer and bandleader Petr Malásek, a long-time collaborator and connoisseur of her repertoire. She is also behind this year's studio version of the Prayer, majestically arranged with a large orchestra and sung again after more than fifty years by a mature lady unspoiled by fate.
The message, if you want to call it a dispatch, of this selection is about the fundamental artistic and human uniqueness of Marta Kubišová, supported by a number of songs with social overlap and importance. Although the sometimes cruel twists and turns of her life have taken almost twenty years of a brilliant career, her relevance to Czech/Slovak popular music is undoubted - and here again you can clearly hear why.
