Le Mans '66
In 1959, Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) is at the absolute peak of his career, having won the world's toughest motor race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. But after this greatest triumph, the intrepid Texan is dealt a devastating blow – a heart condition discovered by his doctors makes it impossible for him to continue racing.
Shelby embarks on a new career as a highly inventive car designer. He collaborates with a team that includes the outstanding test driver and British champion, Ken Miles (Christian Bale). Miles is not only a top-tier racer devoted to his family, but he is also insufferably arrogant and utterly incapable of compromise.
It is this very team of automotive fanatics that Henry Ford II hires to design and build the ultimate racing car for his company. Ford is determined to get his revenge on Enzo Ferrari, who pulled out of a planned merger with the Ford Motor Company at the last minute.
Scuderia Ferrari cars have been winning at Le Mans continuously from 1960 to 1965. Shelby, Miles, and their small team are determined to put a decisive end to that streak with the Ford GT40. They must battle not only the unbeatable Ferraris, but also the laws of physics and their own personal demons.
