Lucy and the hotel in Brittany
Lucy needs a fresh start. A forty-nine-year-old hotel manager from New York, currently jobless and broke due to a scam perpetrated by her former boss and partner, finds both her personal and professional life in ruins. She has lost her job, her home, and her boyfriend, and is now living with her parents. It's no surprise that she leaps at the only offer that comes her way – managing a small, stylish hotel in Rennes, Brittany. She pictures gleaming chandeliers and a gallery of life-sized portraits of the owner's ancestors, but the reality is a far cry from her imagination. To her surprise, she discovers on arrival that the hotel was last operational after the war. The first one. And that her task is to first get it back into shape and only then make it a success.
With no other choice, Lucy discovers an unexpected strength and set of skills within herself. With immense dedication, sensitivity, and a sense of humour, she works to get the charming Hotel Paradis ready to open again. She is helped by a group of quirky local old-timers, a sort of randomly assembled family of friends of various ages and professions. Somewhere between painting walls, refurbishing furniture, creating a website, and getting closer to an attractive, albeit somewhat grumpy, children's book author – a star of the American book market – Lucy realises she's starting to feel at home here. Will Lucy find a professional restart in Brittany, and perhaps a new family and love as well?
