Nowadays, when inclusion in education has become one of the hot topics of the day, it is becoming increasingly relevant to acquaint professionals and the wider public with the specifics of the personality of pupils and clients with mental disabilities. The publication focuses on the necessary clarification of terminology and the legal regulation of the status of people with intellectual disabilities, their diagnosis, education and social services provided to them.
The text is based on current legislative standards and on three basic stratification systems that are gradually being implemented in the health care sector (MKF – International Classification of Functioning Abilities, Disability and Health), in the field of social services (SIS – Scale for determining the level of support) and in (special) education and counselling (Catalogues for assessing the level of special educational needs and Catalogues of support measures). The reader will gain an overview of the personality structure of a person with intellectual disabilities and of special educational support for pupils with intellectual disabilities, which is a new phenomenon in the care of these people. The publication does not avoid such sensitive areas as the expression of emotions, partner relationships and sexuality of people with intellectual disabilities. It also emphasizes the role of the family environment.
The book is primarily intended for psychologists, special educators, psychiatrists, social workers and students of these disciplines and all those who need to orient themselves in this complex issue.
