“A pinch of humour among the ordinary things of everyday life” Mariana Chmelařová (alias Minach) comes from eastern Slovakia and although she was engaged as an actress at HaDivadlo in Brno for 19 years, singing is certainly not foreign to her.
In addition to Slovak folk songs, arrangements of which she later presented with the band Czaldy-Waldy, she recorded the very first album Dověcnosti with the I. Českomoravská nezávislá hudební společnost (today Čechomor), and performed in most of the songs on Jiří Bulis's album “Hosté na zemi”. The first theatrical songs for Míňa (Mariana Chmelařová) were written for the cabaret Komediograf about 10 years ago. Later, Zdeněk Král (and also Mario Buzzi) gradually wrote more songs and the duo, under the name Zdeněk Král a Minach, began to perform independently outside of Komediograf.
This recording marks a departure from the traditional, sentimentally romantic chanson, a departure from purely theatrical songs, and a turn towards a more modern sound created by a combination of acoustic and electric instruments, with an absence of sentimentality but not of depth. However, what the recording does not lack, and what adorns Minach, is playfulness, exaggeration, and “cuddly” melodies.
