Mitski: Be The Cowboy
LP Record Mitski's meticulously composed songs have often been portrayed as emotionally raw, overflowing confessions from a feverish girl. However, on her fifth album, Be The Cowboy, Mitski introduces a persona that has been hinted at before but never so present – a woman in complete control. "For this new record, I experimented with narrative and fiction," Mitski says. While she's reluctant to say she has created fully-fledged characters, she reveals: "a very controlled, icily repressed woman who is starting to unravel. Because women have so little power, and showing emotion is seen as a weakness, this 'character' clings to any control she can get."
