My story

A powerful and inspiring personal memoir by the former First Lady of the United States

Little Michelle Robinson grew up on the South Side of Chicago, sharing a room with her brother Craig and playing with him in a nearby park. Her parents, Fraser and Marian Robinson, encouraged her to be fearless and outspoken from an early age. Gradually, life took her much further: through the campus of Princeton University, where she felt for the first time what it was like to be the only black woman in a lecture hall, to the glass office tower of a high-powered corporate lawyer. This is also where a law student named Barack Obama showed up one summer morning. In My Story, Michelle Obama recounts the early years of her marriage as she struggled to balance work and family with her husband's skyrocketing political career. With grace, with humour and unprecedented honesty, offers us a suggestive look behind the scenes of those moments, her family's groundbreaking entry onto the world stage, even for eight historical years, that she experienced in the White House-- as she gradually got to know her country and her country got to know her. In her memoir, Michelle Obama gives us a glimpse into the soul of a unique, trailblazing personality who strives to live an unstructured life and lends her strength and voice in the service of higher ideals. In sound form, the performer Zuzana Stivínová has managed to become a kind of alter ego of the author, so she tells her life story with unprecedented conviction and inventiveness.
