After 25 years, the band Nerez is returning to the stage. This collection of twelve original songs—mostly by Zdeněk Vřešťál and Lucia Šoralová, but also featuring interesting guest writers (Ondřej Soukup and Silvia Kaščáková)—surprises with its genre diversity. The recording stylistically spans the whole of Europe. A csárdás, a folk ballad, reggae, chanson, and acoustic pop music all stand side-by-side, with lyrics in Czech, Slovak, Hebrew, Serbo-Croatian, and Romani. The album excels with extraordinary vocal performances from the main protagonists, refined backing vocals, and virtuosic solos from the other band members.
The folk band Nerez was formed in 1981. Its core was the songwriting trio of Zuzana Navarová, Zdeněk Vřešťál, and Vít Sázavský. During their time together, they won various awards, including the prestigious Porta and Vokalíza. They released highly acclaimed and sought-after studio albums such as Masopust, Na vařený nudli, Ke zdi, and Nerez v Betlémě. The band ceased its active work in the mid-1990s; however, the main trio occasionally met on stage until the premature death of Zuzana Navarová (2004). Last year, Vřešťál and Sázavský teamed up with Lucia Šoralová, and Nerez entered the next phase of its existence.
