What happened to nine-year-old Maria on St. Thomas Hill? Did she really see an angel, or was her experience more earthly?

In 2000, an angel appeared to little Maria in Výtona, a remote village in the foothills of the Šumava Mountains. Twelve years later, Milan, a college student with his sights set on a career in journalism, sets out to the pilgrimage site to gather all available material and interview witnesses. He wants to write his thesis on the famous event. In the course of his research, he stumbles upon clues that suggest that the famous apparition may not have taken place as tradition has it. The Church refuses to recognize him, the visionary Marie herself now works in a 24-hour bar, does not want to return to the past and suffers from inexplicable anxiety.

Meeting Helena, a former policewoman who has left Prague and settled in Výtoni, opens Milan's eyes. Thanks to her former profession, she recognized that the child had probably faced an unspeakably harrowing experience. So, was Marie on the hill above Výtoní the victim of a crime? Did her mind create a false memory of a mystical experience to protect herself from psychological trauma? Helena convinces Milan and together they decide to find out what really happened.
