Daniela's story will remind other women of certain parts of their own lives and the often fateful mistakes they've made. The book's plot begins to unfold when Daniela realises her youth is slowly coming to an end. On top of that, she has to deal with a long-term relationship with her lover, who, although he showers her with attention, also showers her with a mountain of promises about getting a divorce—just as soon as the children are grown up, just as soon as his wife gets better.
Daniela finds out for herself that the love of her life is lying to her and decides to change her life. Because she doesn't want to see her ex and is afraid she might fall for his charm again, she finds a job in a small village. Here she meets a lot of interesting people, whom city folk often contemptuously call yokels. She finds a way to connect with them, and it seems she might stay there longer than she expected.
But then things change—her landlord's son suddenly returns, and Daniela is the odd one out, right at Christmas time. She decides to enjoy the holidays a little more freely, which doesn't come without consequences, and Daniela is left with no choice but to find another path.
Will her child's birth certificate have a blank line, or will someone lend them a helping hand?
