When Daniel was born, he suffered a brain haemorrhage. These complications unfortunately led to further health problems for him. It was discovered after birth that he was missing a rectum, and at seven months he developed epilepsy, followed by the failure of his right kidney. Daniel has a urostomy and also suffers from right-sided hemiparesis. Despite all the adversities, Daniel is a cheerful boy. He attends primary school with an individual plan, can write in block letters, and with the help of an abacus, he can also add and subtract up to 20. His other hobbies include books, especially those with animals—he flips through them, looks at the pictures, and has learned to get information from books using a talking pen. Like every boy, he likes cars and computers, but he also enjoys being in nature. He responds very positively to contact with animals, and dogs are number one for him. That's why his parents want to grant his big wish and get him a dog that would be his great friend, as well as a helper on his difficult path through life.

Daniel's difficult path through life
A canine helper
Dan responds very positively to contact with animals, and he likes dogs the most. When he meets them, he actively tries to interact, feeling the need to touch, pet, and play with them. He also loves walking them on a lead and talking to them. These activities always leave him with positive emotional experiences and help with muscle relaxation. His parents want a canine friend and, above all, a helper for Daniel. A dog that would let itself be petted, thus helping to relax his stiff right hand affected by paresis and generally contributing to the development of Daniel's motor skills. A dog that would provide an early warning for an approaching epileptic seizure, a dog that would stabilise him while walking, and a dog that would bring him a lot of joy and motivation in life. Cody, who is currently undergoing training, is such a dog. However, the training is expensive. The family still needs 150,000 crowns.

About the Naše dítě Foundation
The Naše dítě Foundation has been helping mentally and physically handicapped, abandoned, and abused children, as well as children who find themselves in difficult life situations, for 27 years. It has always operated without any state funding and has always received a positive audit opinion from Ernst & Young Audit, s. r. o. The foundation focuses on the following types of assistance: purchasing compensatory aids such as manual wheelchairs, special pushchairs, chairs, glasses, or hearing aids, and also covers costs for things like neurorehabilitation stays or the training of assistance dogs for children with various types of disabilities. The foundation also helps children at risk of poverty, particularly from socially excluded areas, for example, by paying for educational clubs, tutoring, school trips, and other extracurricular activities. Over its 27 years of activity, more than 300 million crowns have been distributed to benefit disadvantaged children in the Czech Republic.
Organisation's guarantor
Zuzana Šafářová studied Czech Philology at Palacký University in Olomouc. She has been working at the Naše dítě Foundation for three years as a PR Specialist and is also in charge of some of the foundation's projects, such as the Legal Aid Helpline. Previously, she worked in the commercial sector in a role with the same focus.
