Overworked people

Why can't we stop eating things that aren't food, and what can we do about it?

Do you know what you're feeding yourself and your children? Embark on a fascinating and terrifying journey into the world of ultra-processed foods. With the help of science, you'll discover what you're really eating and why the modern diet leads to chronic diseases, mental illness, and addiction, rather than health and balance. In addition to the unexpected ingredients in common foods, Chris van Tulleken also uncovers the disturbing manufacturing processes and insidious marketing tactics that compel us to reach for these chemical delicacies time and time again. But you don't have to accept it. The author, who experimentally tried eating as poorly as a typical British teenager for a month, shows how to successfully combat the addiction to 'non-food' and finally take conscious control over what we consume daily.

Among other things, you will learn

- Industrial food processing reduces micronutrient content so drastically that it causes malnutrition and obesity simultaneously.
- Low-calorie products encourage overeating despite containing no sugar.
- An unhealthy diet is linked to more deaths worldwide than smoking.
- Many industrial foods are specifically designed to be addictive.
- How to develop the ability to make healthier choices when shopping.

This book will forever change the way you look at what's on your plate.
