From the author of the successful novel Klikař Beny, nominated for the Magnesia Litera award.
Kosta is back from prison and doesn't have much time left. Cíba and Fošna will never work properly, even if Rýma goes crazy. Three Marys are settling old scores at a dry well, and on New Year's Eve, everything might just explode. In the end, it's the poor cat who has it best, with no idea of its fate. Everything is changing, and the only certainty is that not everyone has been dealt the same good hand by fate.
The heroes of these short stories are taciturn, carefully guarding their secrets, traumas, loves, and hopes. They rarely let anyone get close and almost never ask for help. Behind their silence and seemingly insignificant gestures lies a desire to truly live at least one more time, perhaps for the last time.

The author's affinity for the lower registers of speech, for the language of the marginalised, for colloquial Czech as well as slang, lends the stories a certain vitality and spontaneity. Bohatá tells her tales energetically, with gusto; her short stories have a natural flow, an underlying drive.
— Radim Kopáč on the book Zbabělí hrdinové (Cowardly Heroes), Lidové noviny
The stories crept out of my memory at night and wove webs of other people's lives. And I, an astonished nocturnal voyeur, watched them, being everything and everyone, only to discover they are like leaves from a single tree, similar and different at the same time. Bound by the same hopes, losses, and pains, they are all around us, and we are all around them, in a constant state of meeting and passing by.
