As its name suggests, the brass band Palavanka from Starovičky comes from the Pálava Hills region, a land of fine wine, beautiful folk costumes and traditions.
Palavanka was founded in 1973 in the village of Strachotín. The modern history of Palavanka dates back to 2001, when the band was "rejuvenated" and Hynek Novotný became its bandleader. In 2002, Palavanka began collaborating with MgA. Miroslav Brůček, under whose artistic direction it won the prestigious Audience Award at the "Golden Grape of South Moravia" brass band competition in Mikulov in September 2002. In 2006, under the artistic direction of Antonín Šohaj, Palavanka recorded and released its first CD, "Chlapci od Pálavy" (Boys from Pálava).
Palavanka is made up of young and cheerful boys who are winning ever greater admiration from listeners with their love for music. Palavanka's repertoire includes not only compositions by prominent composers (J. Konečný, V. Maňas Jr., M. Prajka, V. Pfeffer, J. Uher and others), but also pieces for solo instruments and arrangements of folk songs.
