Pathology

This third edition of the pathology textbook is based on the previous 2nd, revised edition. As it has been 10 years since its publication, new classifications of pathological changes have emerged that students should be aware of. The authors also refer to foreign texts, primarily the latest American textbook, Robbins & Cotran: Pathologic Basis of Disease.

Since the time of publication, the comprehensive textbooks Patologie by Prof. C. Povýšil, MD, and Prof. I. Šteiner, MD, and co-authors; and the three-volume textbook Patologie by Prof. J. Zámečník, MD, Ph. D., and co-authors have been released. Both works are excellent manuals for medical faculty students in the field of general medicine and for postgraduate education. However, for bachelor's degree programmes and for dentistry students, the texts are too extensive, causing students to get lost and unable to absorb and penetrate the material. Similarly, this textbook could be used for quick revision, due to its easier navigation.

This publication strives not only to introduce medical terms but also to explain them, so students do not have to look up expressions in dictionaries and other specialised texts. The authors use simple and comprehensible sentences. Throughout the textbook, keywords that an examiner will expect during an exam are highlighted in bold. Another advantage is that the single-volume work is easier to carry, allowing students to study the book away from home.

The publication can serve as a primary textbook for dentistry students, as a supplementary textbook for general medicine students, but mainly for students of non-medical health disciplines (to a certain limited extent) and higher professional health schools.
