Preparing for childbirth: Basic publication for the field of midwifery.
Psychoprophylactic preparation for childbirth plays an important role in comprehensive and effective psychophysical preparation, which is a prerequisite for the management of physiological pregnancy and childbirth. Prenatal care and psychoprophylactic preparation are part of maternal health care in European Union countries. The aim of the psychological preparation is an individual and appropriately chosen approach to the parent, the purpose of which is to remove anxiety, fear and apprehension and to induce a positive attitude towards the whole birth. The aim of physical training is to change the habitual bad habits in observing correct body positions, physical activity, maintaining the right weight and strengthening the use of the body as a whole. Another goal of physical training is the prevention of cardiovascular complications. For the purpose of comprehensive preparation of the parturient, many obstetric departments organize specialized courses in which psychoprophylaxis is to ensure good fitness and psychological-theoretical preparation of the parturient, to teach the woman various exercises to promote physical fitness and to strengthen muscle groups, especially in the spine, pelvis and abdomen.
